These images of Northern Lapwings, also called Peewits, were taken
in Germany close to the North Sea. Here they go by the name "Kibitz"...
Because of environmental changes due mainly to agriculture the species
had to adapt and now survives mainly
on farm land and fields. Muddy and swampy meadows were the inherently preferred
habitat for these wader birds. The pictures were taken during summer and their feathers were of rather dull color as opposed to when in breading season. Notice the oversized wingspan.
