Images of Bald Eagle aero acrobats above and around George’s Island Park, NY

Sometimes life is a circus... Or so it seems, at least for juvenile eagles. They chase each other
like adolescents of most species, entwining, rolling, bouncing around. Mature eagles, as in the
2 bottom images, often join or lead in what may seem like fun to spectators. In reality it is about bonding, courtship rituals, flight training, indirect shaping of hunting skills. Yet, from my
impressions I come away with more than a hunch they may indeed experience fun-like
sensations. How rewarding for us awed and lucky fans to be able to witness these sky acrobats.
Thank You
, Rachel Carson.
Cautionary note: Going by the statistics, not many of the young eagles will make it to adulthood... Odds are one in 5, two at the most.
