As stated, in most circumstances Bald Eagles on a perch will just take off when approached.
Top left & right were exceptions to the rule. The one on the left was either used to the
photographer’s species (he was banded) or perhaps had had such a meal that he didn’t feel
like moving. I was allowed a series of shots from, say, 10 to 15 yards away. Winter at the
edge of the parking lot of the Lewis & Clark Illinois State Historical Site, near Hartford, IL...
The picture on the right was taken at another parking lot, where river cruise ships anchor
by the CT River at Haddam... From the buds it is evident that spring had arrived. Most adult
Bald Eagles that roost between here and Old Saybrook during the cold season had
returned to their respective nests upstream (pages 6, 7, 8) or to which ever destination...
This individual, whom I got to watch on several occasions, was either too old or had lost
his mate. Previously he had flown away when I moved in with my Big Eye...
On that day I got to within +/- 30 yards...
